Home-Start, offers a unique family support service which is provided solely by trained parent volunteers who have been safely recruited and trained.

This model enables us to reach the most isolated and marginalised families, with children up to the age of 5 and pre-birth. The families we support are from all communities of Blackburn with Darwen. The support consists of weekly contact through home-visits (if safe to do so), in a community setting, phone and digital support.

The issues we support families with are for, social isolation & emotional wellbeing; accessing and getting involved with community activities; setting family/home routines; managing their child’s behaviour; school readiness (including toilet training), housing, debt and finance issues; accessing volunteer opportunities and courses. 

Home-Start offers a range of volunteer opportunities and all our volunteers will be expected to complete:

• an interview
• a volunteer preparation course (over 7 weeks)
• provide 2 suitable references
• complete the process for an Enhanced DBS
