Boost your Wellbeing this September

Walking is accessible, free & one of the easiest ways to get more active, lose weight & become healthier. Sometimes overlooked as a form of exercise, walking briskly can help you build stamina, burn excess calories & make your heart healthier!

Some of our team have been out exploring recently on our doorstep & further afield! Take a look...

Local Walk at Dean Clough Reservoir with Deanna

Deanna, her daughter Kaylah & dog Bella enjoyed a 2 mile walk around Dean Clough Reservoir recently. There are many ways to get to the reservoir - through the woods, through fields or via Goldacre Lane as it is mostly flat (although it may be bumpy for wheelchairs due to the stones). They enjoyed the fresh air, lovely views & even saved a sheep stuck in the fence twice!

Darwen Tower with Debbie & Kathryn

Debbie and Kathryn have been trying to get fitter & improve their wellbeing by walking for an hour either before or after work a couple of times each week. One of Debbie’s favourite walks is to Darwen Tower because she spent a lot of time there when she was growing up in Darwen. Kathryn grew up in Pendle & has always enjoyed blowing the cobwebs away walking up the famous Pendle Hill. So, to share their childhood memories they challenged each other to walk up their favourite hills!

The duo set of from Sunnyhurst Woods & took the scenic route (which means they got lost!) up over Darwen Moors to the Tower. They got there in the end & enjoyed the lovely view from the top of the tower (they also made a friend they met along the way 🦌😊)!

Kathryn really enjoyed completing the challenge, taking in the lovely scenery & felt proud that she had conquered Darwen Tower. Will Debbie be able to manage to get the top of Pendle Hill...? Watch this space!

Summitting a soggy Snowdon with Stephanie

Stephanie recently climbed the highest mountain in Wales, Snowdon, in the wild wind and rain. She's pictured here bravely battling the elements! Despite the weather she still really enjoyed the walk, joined by her two grown up children.

Stephanie is also taking on the Yorkshire 3 Peaks Challenge (24 miles in 12 hours).

Good luck Stephanie from all of your colleagues here at Care Network!

Sunset by the sea with Dani

With long work hours, teen children & an intensive strength training schedule, walking is an important part of self care & wellbeing for our colleague Dani. She tries to get out in the evenings around work during the week.

She recently headed to the coast for a walk by the water near Arnside & was treated to a spectacular sunset!

This is a lovely route for those on foot or a bike with wonderful views (also a great excuse for a drive out)!

We hope these help to inspire you to get & about this month, even if it's just for a 15 minute wander in the park!
